Had to Phone Todd Doors for Clarification !!
I had to phone Todd Doors today to get clarity again on which doors in the showroom matched to which pages of the brochure.
The first thing is that the Garda (K8300) doors on page 21 of the brochure were not in the showroom at all.
The doors in front of the reception desk are the Prezzo(B4500) doors on page 13 of the brochure. These doors are not solid core and weigh less, plus the V groove is painted and not inlaid with Oak.
The good doors in the main part of the showroom, were the ISEO K4500 doors on pages 18 and 19 of the brochure. These doors are:-
- solid core, so best mass and feeling of being “heavier”
- have oak inlays in the V grooves
- has a choice of three designs of glazed doors
- the four pane doors have a choice of frosted plain glass or rather nice bevelled clear glass… and some sizes clear non-bevelled glass
- do not have grooves running straight to the edge, so are easier to align in the double door situations like the dining room or wardrobe doors.
- have 838mm wheelchair width doors in all relevant sizes

Internal Doors – A Visit to Todd Doors at High Wycombe
Took wednesday to travel to the Todd Door Showroom at High Wycombe. It helped. A bit!!
There are all sorts of things to consider –
- door design, sometimes multiple choices!!
- door thickness
- what the matching glazed doors look like
- if you have V grooves running to the edge, will they line up properly on double doors (“no”)
- door handles (about 50 choices) – form or function?
- if you have double doors to you want butted or overlapped.
- how to decide on catches for double doors
- hinges – brushed or chrome

We came away settling on this door, the Orta. Actually upon reflection there are all sorts of issues with this choice – mainly the issue of double doors and wardrobe doors.

The issue is making the seams line up in double door settings

Then if you have glazed double doors you have to be very careful as can al look a bit fussy

You have to be a bit careful as to how the handles will look at the edges. Here’s one you wouldn’t want

Now it’s two days later and I’m thinking it’ll have to be the other choice (above). Even then, there are two choices – it’s all the do with those little grooves and whether there is an inlay in them or not. It would be nice too to have 40mm doors not 35mm but we shall have to see if that is possible.
This choice means:-
No grooves at the edges so no lining up worries
Wardrobe doors and internal doors can be consistent
Depending on the final choice, there is possible a better choice of matching glazed door with 4 windows and thin bars across. Shall visit a house in Southborough soon to learn more.
On handles, it’s amazing the price difference for the handles that feel better in the hand. They can be double the price – around £30-£35 per pair. Two became fovourites

This one might look a bit prettier, but will the fashion pass? There were lots along these lines of design of chrome and satin mixed, but this was the nicest to hold.

Or this one, the Capi and third one down in the stack, which is all satin finish, but much nicer to hold.

Then there is the hinges. First off, I like the interleaving of two different thicknesses, but the choice is chrome or brushed stainless steel. I think if you have satin handles it’ll have to be the brushed hinges, but if you have the chrome/satin handles you might choose either.
House on 16 April, Tuesday of Easter Fortnight
The site was quiet yesterday and today. The project plan actually shows a pause around Easter, though Nick (our builder) is in email every day.

I noticed the skip had slabs and couldn’t figure from where!

This Website & “THE VIRTUAL TOUR”
Featured
This website records the project to rebuild the family home during 2019. It is a “Blog” so by convention, the newest postings appear at the top, and the oldest at the bottom.
You can also see entries listed by category (eg “Kitchen”) by clicking on one of the topics listed down the right hand side of this page.
THE VIRTUAL TOUR
The website holds a virtual tour of the house – some video around the outside and some photos, room by room, around the inside.
To see the tour, look at the right hand column (on PC or MAC… or scroll down on Ipad or phone) and see a long list of topics under a heading of “Category Selection”. Near the bottom of that list you will see “Tour”. Click that and it will take you directly there – ‘advert free’, I think.
