June 11th – Brickwork Starts !!

At last, a big day, our brickwork has started. It’s the second sort of “forwards” day – the first being when the new slabs went in to form the floors of the new parts.

The front of the porch has been removed, the kitchen ceiling has gone. Pantry gone!

The screeds have been dug out and we are down to the slab. Good news is that the internal walls look to be based on the slab. Good. However, there’s not enough clearance for the underfloor heating, so the slab has got to come up as well it seems.
I can see now too where all the pipework for radiators and the bas fire is running. (Not seen the cloak room though. ) The gas pipe for the fire interestingly runs right across the centre of the room in a groove in the slab.
Progress June 10th – No Bricklaying Possible Due to Heavy Rain
Pouring with rain today so no bricklaying possible. Muddy so I stayed at the gate!!
One cassette of bricks has been manhandled to the rear of the property ready to go, and the other remains on the south side for the front walls. I think there are more coming.
Instead the crew are making use of the time by ripping out all the ground floor screed. They have shifted one skip full already and tomorrow’s skip is lined up. Nick is keen to find out if the remaining internal walls are laid on to the slab or the on to the screed. If the former then “no problem”, but if the latter, additional actions will be needed.
